GARDENING IN WALES |
|
July: Tasks For Week Four.Plant Madonna Lilies: Lilium candidum should be sown now. They produce a lot of new growth in the late summer and this should not be missed. Plant in only 50mm of soil, 200mm apart, in a sunny, reasonably good, but not recently manured, position Plant Colchicums, Autumn Crocuses etc; crocuses should be planted 75mm deep and 75mm apart; the others 150mm deep and 100mm apart in a well-drained, rather sheltered, but sunny position. Lift Daffodils and Bulbous Irises: if you need the space, otherwise leave them in for another year, as they do not benefit from lifting, as do tulips and hyacinths. If you do lift, re-plant before the end of September. Cut Back Helianthemums. Start to Feed Chrysanthemums. Sow Parsley for Autumn and Winter Use. Enjoy your garden! Regards, Owen. |
