GARDENING IN WALES |
|
November:- Tasks for Week One.Plant Tulips and Hyacinths: complete the planting of these bulbs as soon as possible. Unlike many other hardy bulbs, tulips and hyacinths do benefit from a thorough drying off and ripening out of the ground and there is nothing to be gained from planting before late October. This is also convenient, as they can be planted in the beds recently cleared of summer bedding plants. Give the soil a dusting of bone-meal (100 g / m˛), fork in and plant bulbs: hyacinths: 6" deep x 8" apart; tulips: 3-4" deep x 8" apart. Start to Force Indian Azaleas: for really early plants, bring them into a temperature of 65-70°F now and syringe with tepid water daily Not much to do outside the greenhouse now. However, if you know of a chore to do now, please let me know and I will include it. Enjoy your garden! Regards, Owen.
