               September:- General Tasks.

Plant Narcissi, Lilies, Bulbous Irises etc: including trumpet daffodils, crocuses, all Irises, snowdrops, muscari, scillas and all lilies except lilium candidum (see July: 4) any time in the autumn, but as early as possible. If you can accomplish this in September, so much the better. Tulips and hyacinths can wait until October: week 4.

Sow grass seed:
see April: week 1

Take Cuttings of Evergreen Shrubs:

Take Cuttings of Bedding Plants:
throughout September

Keep down Foes:
the foe of the month is mildew on roses, delphiniums and chrysanthemums. Use a weak lime-sulphur mixture or proprietary brand.

Place Bulbs in Ornamental Bowls:
especially hyacinths and narcissi. Enjoy your garden!
